Scope of
Support
MacDNS is available to customers in a number of
ways. When MacDNS is included as part of a
purchased software or server bundle from Apple,
complimentary telephone support is included. The
length of the telephone support is linked to the
support of the product purchased; for example, when
shipped with AppleShare IP, support is offered for
90 days from proof of purchase. If the product was
shipped with a server configuration, MacDNS support
is provided as part of the server support.
Apple has also made MacDNS available as a free
download from our Apple Software Updates website;
no telephone support is offered when MacDNS is
downloaded from the Internet.
Up and Running Support for customers entitled
to telephone support for MacDNS includes:
- Assistance with installation.
- Assistance with troubleshooting problems
that may arise during initial setup (except for
providing configuration information, such as IP
addresses, name server addresses, etc.)
- Assistance with troubleshooting problems or
isolating problems related to name resolution
through MacDNS.
- Providing information on system
requirements, known incompatibilities and
issues, and workarounds.
The following would be considered beyond up
and running support for MacDNS:
- Instruction and/or training on DNS in
general.
- Recommendations on how to optimally
configure services on the network.
- Verifying or obtaining network configuration
information from ISP
- Interpreting trapped packets
